The Fred and Shirley Pryor YMCA Challenger Sports Complex is designed for young athletes with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities, and is the only accessible sports complex in the Kansas City area. Every field, path and dugout here was built so that a mobility device is never the reason a kid sits out. If your athlete has ever been left on the sidelines, this is the place built for them to play.
The complex is home to the Mark Teahen Challenger Baseball Field, the Trent Green Family Field, the American Family Insurance Field and an accessible playground. The baseball field uses a synthetic rubber surface with flat bases so wheelchairs and other mobility devices can move freely, and its dugout has no stairs or curbs. Synthetic grass turf gives soccer and flag football players a level, flat surface to compete on.
Accessibility carries through the whole site, not just the fields. The playground has ramps, accessible equipment and a rubber surface, the parking lot is fully accessible with no curbs going into the complex, and the restrooms are fully accessible as well. The first phase opened in fall 2010, with the Trent Green Family Field and the playground following in fall 2013. A final phase will add two more synthetic grass fields for multipurpose use and a walking trail circling the complex.

No. The Pryor Sports Complex is a program site rather than a membership branch, so participation runs through registration for a specific season or program rather than a facility membership. A Y membership opens up wellness centers, pools and classes at our branches, but it is not what gets your athlete on the field here.
